The Africa Centre for Nature-Based Climate Action (AC4NCA) has formally launched a new strategic plan. This plan aims to significantly advance nature-based climate solutions across Africa. The initiative seeks to promote climate action that is locally rooted and socially inclusive.

This strategic plan emerged from a high-level gathering in Accra named the Nature-Talks Soirée. Diplomats, government officials, academics, and climate advocates attended this event. The meeting highlighted growing cooperation on climate issues in Africa. Many African nations face severe climate impacts. Yet, they contribute very little to global greenhouse gas emissions.

This effort fits into a larger narrative of climate challenges in Ghana and Africa. Africa is disproportionately affected by climate change. This includes extreme weather and loss of diverse plant and animal life. Yet, the continent contributes only a small percentage to global emissions. AC4NCA's plan seeks to use Africa's natural resources like forests and wetlands effectively. These resources can help reduce emissions and adapt to climate changes.

Samuel A. Jinapor, the Global Lead of AC4NCA, stressed the need to prioritize nature. He stated, “Nature-based solutions provide a powerful opportunity to deliver climate action that is locally grounded, socially inclusive, and economically transformative.” The European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, confirmed the EU's continued support for Africa's climate action. He mentioned, “The European Union will remain a stable partner to Ghana for the next 50years and beyond.”

The implications of this strategic plan are significant for climate action and economic development. By focusing on nature-based solutions, AC4NCA aims to create jobs. It also aims to improve livelihoods and protect ecosystems. Decision-makers and international partners will watch the implementation closely. They will observe how effectively these nature-based approaches can be scaled up to address widespread climate risks. The plan's success could unlock new funding streams for conservation and sustainable development projects across the continent.
