Ahafo Regional Minister Charity Gardiner is leading a forceful campaign to end exam cheating in the region. This effort is for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Last year, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) labelled the Ahafo Region a 'hotspot' for collusion. Minister Gardiner personally visited exam centres in Hwediem and Kenyasi on Monday. Her goal is to ensure absolute honesty for the 12,479 students taking the exams. This action is a direct response to the previous negative report from WAEC.

Minister Gardiner spoke to invigilators and supervisors at an assembly in Hwediem. She stressed that fighting exam malpractice is about protecting the region’s dignity. She compared academic dishonesty to illegal mining. Both activities damage Ghana's future potential, according to the minister. She declared that the days of being repeat offenders are over. The region is committed to a malpractice-free week. This will restore the value of every student's hard work.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the region has taken strict measures. Supervisors and invigilators linked to the 2025 irregularities are prohibited from working this year. Abraham Fletcher, the Regional Director of Education, issued a strong warning. Any official found assisting students, through devices or providing answers, will be immediately fired. This policy applies to all staff involved in the examination process.

The integrity push includes all 12,479 candidates. This group features 23 students from the Bechem School for the Deaf and Blind. The commitment to fairness is inclusive. The examination is being held in 50 centres across the region. These centres serve students from 372 public schools and 93 private schools. A total of 427 invigilators are on duty. They are supported by 50 supervisors and 43 assistant supervisors. Regional leaders are maintaining strict oversight.

Minister Gardiner wants to erase the 'Ahafo Hotspot' label. She emphasized that while the government provides resources, success depends on student discipline. It also relies on the honesty of examination officials. Her 'Reset Agenda' will guide educational reforms. The region is determined to rebuild its reputation.
