Film director Bonaventure stated that men possess an innate capacity for commitment. He believes this quality is built into their nature from creation. This view challenges the notion that men are not designed for long-term bonds. He shared this perspective on The Brotherhood show on Joy Prime on April 30, 2026.

Mr. Bonaventure pointed to biblical narratives to support his argument. He cited God's instruction for man to work and care for the world as evidence of inherent responsibility. The story of Abraham's impatience leading to Ishmael, versus God's ultimate promise fulfilled through Isaac, illustrated his point. He sees these as examples of humanity's made-to-commit nature. However, he stresses that commitment ultimately remains a conscious decision.

The director dismissed widespread beliefs about men's inability to commit. He described these ideas as inaccurate and influenced by outside factors. Mr. Bonaventure used an analogy: a man satisfied at home does not seek external validation. He suggested that focusing on a man's environment is key when infidelity occurs. He also drew from the Book of Genesis. God's words to the woman about desire and authority over man were referenced. He argued that suppressing a man can negatively impact his spirit and function.

Mr. Bonaventure emphasized that men desire freedom and space to explore. He advocates against harsh judgment of their behavior. He views commitment not as a restriction but as a deliberate choice. Capacity, not just the number of partners, defines commitment for him. A man with the capacity to provide and remain responsible, in his view, could be committed to multiple partners. This contrasts with secret infidelity, which breaks commitment.

He also referenced the biblical figure Jacob. Reuben was described as "unstable as water." This served to illustrate the negative consequences of instability in commitment. Mr. Bonaventure concluded that commitment is embedded in men. He stated that the missing element is often the willingness to uphold it fully. A man who feels respected, supported, and given autonomy is less likely to stray.

Instead, such a man will focus on building and strengthening relationships or endeavors. Mr. Bonaventure reiterated that commitment is a deliberate decision. It requires discipline to maintain. This perspective offers a different lens on male behavior in relationships. It suggests a focus on fostering the right environment and nurturing choice.
