The Amasaman Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a father. He failed to pursue justice for his 12-year-old daughter. The court issued the warrant because the complainant missed court dates. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Beatrice Achiaa Appiah applied for the warrant. She informed the court the father had not attended proceedings. The accused, Tahiru Wapon, 58, was arraigned on November 4, 2025. Police contacted the complainant. He explained he sent the victim, his daughter, to Togo. He stated he could not produce her in court until her return. Wapon denies any wrongdoing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges of defilement. The court had scheduled both parties to appear on July 6, 2026. ASP Appiah previously told the court the complainant is a mason. He lives with the victim at Royal City. Wapon, also known as Baba, is their neighbor. He works as a bottle sealer operator. The complainant often left his daughter with a neighbor. This was due to his busy work schedule. He noticed changes in his daughter's walking. She did not explain these changes. On August 19, 2025, the father saw his daughter leaving Wapon’s house late at night. The next day, she told him Wapon lured her. He lured her behind his room. He sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. She stated Wapon warned her against telling anyone. He threatened her with death. The complainant reported the incident to the Amasaman Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU). A medical report was issued. It was returned endorsed by the Amasaman Government Hospital. Wapon was arrested and charged after police investigations. This case highlights challenges in the justice system. These include witness cooperation and victim protection. The absence of the complainant significantly disrupts judicial processes. It delays potential justice for the victim. The court must ensure all parties attend proceedings. This is vital for fair trial outcomes. The value of life and child protection are paramount. Legal frameworks aim to safeguard vulnerable individuals. Disruptions in these processes can have lasting impacts. The bench warrant signifies the court's determination. It aims to compel the complainant's appearance. This ensures the case can proceed. It allows for evidence to be presented and heard. The incident underscores the need for robust support systems. These systems help victims and witnesses throughout legal proceedings. Ghana's judicial system faces such complex cases. They require careful handling and public trust.
