Dubai tourism revenue down 80% after war impacts travel

Dubai's tourism industry is seeing a sharp fall in business. A war in the region has caused fewer visitors to come. This has hurt many companies that depend on tourists.

Restaurants in Dubai are seeing much less money coming in. Some reported revenue drops of more than 50%. Businesses that get most of their money from tourists have seen even bigger declines, between 70% and 80%. One restaurant group has cut all staff salaries by 30% to avoid firing people. Another chain saw customer numbers drop to just 15% to 20% of what is normal. They had to put over half their staff on unpaid leave and close some locations.

Hotels are also struggling. After the war began, hotel occupancy went down to 15% to 20% of the usual level. Some luxury hotels cut prices by half to attract local guests. Some hotels have closed parts of their buildings or shut down completely for a few weeks to save money. Even business hotels are affected, with many conferences and events cancelled.

Dubai welcomed 19.59 million international visitors last year. This made it one of the world's most visited cities. However, the conflict has disrupted air travel. Thousands of flights have been cancelled. Dubai International Airport, which handled 95.2 million travelers last year, has seen operations affected.

The current situation creates a lot of uncertainty for Dubai's economy. The tourism sector supports many jobs and businesses. Continued conflict could cause more financial strain. This could affect the whole region's economic stability.
