ECG Reforms Tackle Power Shortages
President John Dramani Mahama has identified Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) operational inefficiencies as a key cause of Ghana's power supply problems. The government is making changes to improve electricity service and delivery. These reforms include new management and procurement methods. The focus is now on vital equipment like transformers.
President John Dramani Mahama stated that problems at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are a main reason for Ghana's low power supply. He spoke at the Kwahu Business Forum.
The government is making changes to how ECG works. This includes new management and ways to buy equipment. These changes aim to fix long-standing problems.
Mr. Mahama mentioned past poor choices in buying equipment. ECG bought many street lights that were not needed. This was not the best use of money.
Now, ECG is focusing on key infrastructure. They are buying more transformers. This helps meet the growing demand for power. Transformers make sure electricity flows well.
More people are building houses in cities. This puts a large demand on old power lines. So, older transformers need to be replaced with stronger ones. This means some homes might have temporary power cuts. These cuts happen during upgrades. This work aims to make power supply more stable for everyone.
