Ghana Energy Ministry announces transformer upgrade, expects power outages
Ghana's Ministry of Energy and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are upgrading transformers in Accra to improve power reliability. This program will cause temporary power outages in areas like Adenta, La, and Teshie-Nungua. The upgrades aim to reduce network overloads and frequent outages in growing urban areas.
The Ministry of Energy confirms the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has begun a major transformer upgrade program. This program will improve power supply and reliability in parts of Accra. The work started today, April 7, targeting specific substations and communities.
Areas affected include Adenta, La, Teshie-Nungua, Nmai-Dzor, Baatsonaa, and Lashibi. Residents in these areas will experience temporary power interruptions while work is ongoing.
This upgrade is part of wider efforts by the government and ECG. The goal is to address network overloads and reduce frequent power outages. It also aims to strengthen electricity distribution in fast-growing urban communities.
Richmond Rockson, Communications Director at the Energy Ministry, stated that these improvements are needed for a more reliable power supply in the long term. He asked the public to be patient during the temporary outages.
ECG will carry out the upgrade in phases to limit disruption. The time taken for outages will depend on the location and amount of work. Residents should plan for this and check ECG communication channels for updates.
Both the Ministry and ECG have promised to complete the project efficiently. They aim to cause as little trouble as possible for the public.
