Enterprise Group PLC donates GHS 2.4 million to Sunyani Hospital maternity unit
Enterprise Group PLC has invested GHS 2.4 million in building a new Reproductive, Child Health and Family Planning Unit at Sunyani Municipal Hospital. The facility, upgraded from a dilapidated structure, will enhance services for maternal and child healthcare in the Bono Region. This contribution highlights corporate social responsibility in addressing Ghana's healthcare infrastructure challenges.
Enterprise Group PLC has officially opened a new Reproductive, Child Health and Family Planning Unit at Sunyani Municipal Hospital. The company injected GHS 2.4 million into the project. This new facility will bring improved healthcare services to pregnant women, new mothers, and children in Sunyani and nearby areas.
The upgraded unit includes modern amenities like a cold room, a general ward, and advanced medical equipment. This replaces a former structure described as a 'deplorable shed' with termite-infested doors. The new facility is designed for efficient service delivery. It will provide essential services including child growth monitoring, nutrition support, and immunisation programs.
This significant donation comes as Sunyani Municipal Hospital prepares for its 100th anniversary next year. However, many of the hospital's other buildings are still in poor condition and require urgent attention. The Bono Region's healthcare system faces ongoing infrastructure demands. This project underscores the need for continued support from corporate entities for public health facilities.
Mike Tyson, Chief Financial Officer of Enterprise Group PLC, stated the project is a core part of their corporate social responsibility. He confirmed the GHS 2.4 million covered both infrastructure and equipment. Mr Tyson urged the hospital to maintain the facility to ensure its lasting impact. He expressed hope that this will help reduce child mortality in the Sunyani area.
The investment by Enterprise Group PLC is a crucial step towards enhancing maternal and child health outcomes. It also serves as an example of private sector involvement in strengthening Ghana's healthcare infrastructure. The hospital authorities continue to seek further support for other essential services, such as the Antenatal Clinic.
