Gold Board to track all gold, curb illegal mining

Ghana's Gold Board plans to track every gram of gold to stop illegal mining. New rules will require licenses for all gold buyers and strict checks on where gold comes from. The goal is to make sure gold is sourced properly and bring more miners into the formal system. This could improve Ghana's gold trade and earnings.

The Gold Board will start a new system to track all gold in Ghana. This is to stop illegal mining. The CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, said this new plan will make sure all small-scale gold buys are easy to trace and come from good sources.

This plan will use strict licenses and strong checks. Only licensed buyers can buy gold. These buyers must follow rules about where their gold comes from. If a buyer breaks these rules, they will face legal action under Section 50 (9C) of the Gold Board Act.

The Board will also set up systems to check the origins of gold. This means making sure each gram of gold comes from a responsible mine. The plan also includes helping small, artisanal miners join the formal mining system. This will be through cooperative schemes and licensed small-scale mining.

This program is almost ready to start. The President will be part of its launch. The new tracing system is also being built. This could help Ghana get more value from its gold and make sure all gold trade is legal.
