Government commits GHS100 million to fight illegal mining

Ghana's government has given GHS100 million to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS). This money is to help stop illegal mining, also known as galamsey. President John Dramani Mahama said this budget will make NAIMOS' work stronger this year.

The President noted problems with equipment, especially for watching water bodies. To fix this, the government has approved buying special patrol boats. These boats are made for rivers and will help in areas badly affected by illegal mining. The Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces will use these boats.

Security agencies have clear orders to destroy illegal mining equipment found anywhere. This includes machines on rivers and land. The government says daily operations are already happening across the country to fight illegal mining activities.
