Government criticised for fuel bus purchase amid electric shift

Ghana's Minority in Parliament has criticised the government's decision to buy new 29-seater buses that use fuel. They say this goes against the global move towards cleaner and cheaper transport systems.

Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Road and Transport Committee, Alhassan Hassan Tampuli, stated that the previous government had started using electric buses. This was to modernise public transport and lower costs over time. He questioned why the government is now buying fuel-powered buses.

Mr. Tampuli highlighted that electric buses would significantly cut transport costs for passengers. This is important as fuel prices often change. He believes fuel-powered buses will make passengers pay more compared to electric buses.

The Minority argues that switching to electric vehicles is not just good for the environment but also for the economy. They warn that continuing with fuel vehicles risks repeating past money problems. They urge the government to change its approach and plan future transport spending to match global moves towards sustainable energy solutions.
