Government plans 800 new classrooms and 1 million desks

President John Mahama announced an education infrastructure plan. The goal is to stop children from learning in 'schools under trees'. This year, the government will build 400 new school blocks. It will also provide 1 million new desks and chairs.

District assemblies will also build schools. Each of Ghana's 261 districts is asked to build two new basic school blocks per year. They will use 80% of their District Assemblies Common Fund for this. This means districts will add another 522 new blocks this year. Over four years, this could lead to almost 3,000 new school blocks.

The Ministry of Education will build 400 schools each year going forward. The aim is to remove all 'schools under trees' by 2028. This plan helps improve education quality. It focuses on rural areas where schools often lack proper buildings.

This shows a joint effort by central and local governments. The goal is to provide proper learning spaces for all children.
