Ho Airport Cost 25 Million Dollars GACL Defends Economic Rationale

James Agalga, Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has defended the Ho Airport. He stated that the airport, built for an estimated 25 million US Dollars (about GHS300 million), is not a poor use of money. The airport was constructed from September 2015 to 2018.

Mr. Agalga said airports are for more than just carrying passengers. He explained that they also help with cargo transport and attracting new businesses. He noted that the Ho Airport has drawn interest from investors. These investors want to set up flight training schools there. Currently, many Ghanaian pilots train outside the country, for example, in Kenya.

He expects the Ho Airport to start commercial operations soon. The GACL believes the airport will boost tourism and help the economy in the Volta Region. The airport has a passenger terminal and a runway.
