The 2026 Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival began with a display of flights over the Kwahu area. Professional pilots performed aerial maneuvers, landing at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium. This event is a key part of Ghana's economic plan.
The four-day festival is expected to significantly boost the local economy. The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, said the festival drives economic growth. This includes higher hotel occupancy, more sales for food and drink businesses, and increased local transport. It also increases Ghana's international visibility.
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) predicts 15,000 visitors this year. To handle this growth, the GTA is studying plans to create a new paragliding site in Adaklu, Volta Region. This aims to reduce crowding in Kwahu and spread tourism benefits to other areas.
Government officials have asked for private companies to invest in the tourism sector. Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of GTA, called for partnerships. Mr. Seth Ocran, President of the Ghana Tourism Federation, asked for tax incentives to encourage investment. He also requested more logistical support for new tourism projects.
Safety is a main concern for the festival. All flights follow international standards. Certified pilots operate flights, with safety briefings and approved gear. Weather is monitored, and medical teams are on standby.
