The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has delivered crucial relief supplies to residents of the Anlo District. Tidal waves recently caused significant destruction in several communities. The organisation's immediate response aims to alleviate the hardship faced by affected households.

A delegation led by NADMO Director-General Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon visited Fuveme. Tidal waves had breached the banks of the River Volta, causing widespread damage. This seawater intrusion threatens farming and fishing activities, livelihoods for many in the region. Major General Kuyon stressed the urgency of the situation. He stated that seawater entering the Volta River needs swift action. NADMO is collaborating with the government and other groups to find solutions. They are working on both immediate aid and long-term strategies.

This event highlights the ongoing vulnerability of Ghana's coastal communities. The nation's economy relies heavily on agriculture and fishing. Disasters like these can severely impact local incomes and national food security. Previous incidents in coastal areas have also led to displacement and economic losses. The GHS 4.2 billion allocated to NADMO in the 2024 budget shows government commitment to disaster management. However, recurring events strain these resources.

NADMO officials actively engaged with local leaders during their visit. Volta Regional Director Pascal Agbagba and Anlo District Chief Executive Sandra Seyram Kpedor were present. They discussed sustainable methods to combat the persistent tidal wave issue. Major General Kuyon described the seawater intrusion as a pressing concern. He assured residents that NADMO is dedicated to addressing the problem. The organisation aims to protect lives and economic activities.

As immediate relief, NADMO distributed essential items. These included bags of rice, maize, and peas. Cartons of cooking oil, soap, and mosquito nets were also provided. NADMO stated on Facebook that these actions reflect their commitment. They are dedicated to securing communities affected by tidal waves. The organisation also shared its goal of finding lasting solutions with stakeholders. They remain focused on supporting affected populations. Ensuring their safety and well-being is a priority.

The NADMO delegation included senior figures. Deputy Director-General (Operations) Hon. Teddy Addi-Safori was present. Deputy Director-General (Technical Services) Ahmed-Rufai Aggudey also attended. Director of Operations Col. Lawrence Ahli and Director of Inspectorate Richard Amo-Yartey were also part of the group. Their presence signifies the seriousness with which NADMO is treating this disaster. The organisation plans further assessments and interventions.
