NDPC and NCCE Partner for National Development

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) have strengthened their collaboration. They aim to advance Ghana's Consolidated National Development Plan. This partnership focuses on civic education and national values transformation. Their renewed commitment was highlighted at a stakeholder meeting. The meeting discussed the long-term development agenda for the nation.

Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, Director-General of the NDPC, stated that both institutions are vital. They are critical partners for Ghana's development efforts. Their mandates align closely, she explained. They share a responsibility for national transformation. The NDPC operates under Article 86 of the 1992 Constitution. This guides national development planning and policy coordination. The Commission is creating a single national plan. This plan consolidates various long-term development frameworks. It aims for coherence in policy implementation. Economic transformation and job creation are key focuses. Governance reforms and social development are also included. The plan will guide economic transformation and job creation efforts.

Dr. Amoah emphasized that development requires citizen participation. Government institutions and stakeholders must also be involved. She stated that planning must come before budgeting. This ensures efficient use of public money. She likened poor planning to going to market without a list. This warns against inefficient resource allocation. The NDPC is conducting nationwide consultations. This includes regional and district actors. The commission seeks to strengthen civic education. A Joint Technical Working Group is planned. Nationwide sensitisation programs will also run. These programs support the "Good Society" agenda. The ultimate goal is behavioral change, Dr. Amoah said.

Madam Kathleen Addy, Chairperson of the NCCE, welcomed the partnership. She commended the NDPC's commitment to development planning. A major challenge is turning policy into action. Sustaining commitment over time is also difficult. Madam Addy stated that attitude and behaviour changes are needed. These changes require structured and informed approaches. Simple public messages are not enough. The NCCE is ready to partner with the NDPC. This will promote civic education and national values. It will help build a responsible citizenry. The collaboration supports Ghana's long-term growth.

The partnership aims to ensure the Consolidated National Development Plan succeeds. It needs economic and institutional reforms. It also needs civic values and behavioral changes.
