Northern Regional Hospital staff strike over five month unpaid wages, affecting services

Casual staff at the Northern Regional Hospital, also known as Tamale Central Hospital, have started a sit-down strike. This is their third strike. It is because of five months of unpaid salaries.

The workers, called orderlies, stopped a strike before. This was on March 25. The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service promised they would be paid by March 30. This promise was not kept.

Last week, the strike by these staff caused problems. Hospital wards and washrooms were dirty. This affected public health standards.

A worker, Laila Imoro, said only a few staff got one month's pay. Most are still waiting. The strike will continue until all money is paid.

This strike affects hospital services. It raises concerns about poor sanitation. It also affects patient care. The hospital management has not said when staff will be paid.
