NPA tightens petroleum tanker rules to boost safety
Ghana's National Petroleum Authority (NPA) will enforce new, stricter registration rules for petroleum tankers. This is to improve safety and cut road accidents involving these vehicles. Tankers must now meet higher operational and safety standards.
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) will make registration rules for petroleum tankers tougher. This move aims to improve safety across Ghana's roads. It also seeks to lower the number of accidents involving fuel tankers.
Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, the NPA Chief Executive Officer, stated this at a recent Safety Week event. He explained that only tankers meeting strong operational and safety checks will be allowed to operate. These new checks will cover both new and existing tankers.
The NPA believes that safety is a job for everyone. This includes tanker owners, drivers, and their unions. Stricter checklists and key performance indicators will be used before any new tanker can be registered.
