Peki Road Crash Injured Victims Stable Except Two Referred

Peki Government Hospital is currently caring for 23 individuals injured in a recent road accident. Two of these victims have been transferred to other facilities due to the severity of their injuries. Hospital Administrator Jacob Agbanu-Torvinya confirmed this on Tuesday, June 2. The accident involved a collision between a truck and a passenger bus near Peki-Tsame.

The injured comprised 16 men and seven women. Most are reported to be in stable condition and responding well to treatment. Emergency services, including the National Ambulance Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, swiftly transported the injured to the hospital. While 15 fatalities were confirmed at the crash scene, no further deaths have occurred at the hospital following the initial incident.

This incident underscores a broader issue of road safety in Ghana. The Volta Region, specifically the stretch where the crash occurred, faces frequent accidents. Mr. Agbanu-Torvinya noted that the hospital records an average of two to three road crash incidents per month. "We can look at it, it's quite frequent. At least in a month, on average, we record two or three episodes of this kind... but this seems to be the one with the highest fatality in the last year," stated Mr. Agbanu-Torvinya. The hospital activated its medical emergency response protocols immediately after the crash. This prompt action ensured victims received necessary care.

The high frequency of accidents necessitates a strong focus on road safety measures. This includes better road maintenance, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and public awareness campaigns.
