Peter Debrah Urges Students to Embrace Resilience

Ing. Dr Peter Debrah, CEO of Pedlo Energy, addressed Senior High School students in the Ashanti Region, encouraging them to prioritize purpose, discipline, and personal development for future success. He stressed that setbacks are a vital part of the learning process and urged students to focus on problem-solving and practical skills over mere academic achievement during the 'Fire for Future' conference.

Ing. Dr Peter Debrah, the CEO of Pedlo Energy, has advised Senior High School students to pursue purpose, discipline, and personal development. He stated these are crucial for achieving success. Dr. Debrah spoke at the “Fire for Future” SHS edition conference. This event took place in the Ashanti Region on May 5, 2026. Pedlo Energy organized the conference. Draema Services also partnered for the event. The Ghana Education Service’s Guidance and Counselling Unit in Ashanti collaborated. Many Senior High School students attended. Professionals from different sectors also participated.

Dr. Debrah delivered the keynote address. He told students their future hinges on finding their purpose. Acting on that purpose is also essential. He said, "Your future is not ahead of you; it is inside you." He added, "You are not here just to survive; you are here to solve problems." He warned students against aiming only for academic success. They should identify real-world issues. Then they can work to solve them in their communities. This encourages practical application of knowledge.

On personal development, Dr. Debrah highlighted discipline. He called it more dependable than motivation. He explained, "You will not feel like studying every day. You will not feel like waking up early." He continued, "But discipline says, ‘I will do it anyway.’" He also stressed the need to gain skills. The global job market values practical knowledge. Certificates alone are often not enough. He advised, "Don’t just learn for exams, learn for life." He emphasized, "The person who wins today is the one who can solve problems with skill." This aligns with a growing demand for practical skills.

Dr. Debrah also spoke about character. He urged students to build strong moral foundations. He cautioned against corruption and dishonesty. He stated, "Talent will open doors, but character will keep you there." He further noted, "Who you become is more important than what you achieve." He encouraged resilience. Setbacks are an expected part of the journey. He clarified, "Failure is not the opposite of success; it is part of success." Other speakers included Ing. Twerenyame Acquah and Pharm. Modupe D'Almeida. They shared their career insights. They encouraged students to stay focused on their goals. The “Fire for Future” conference aims to guide young people. It provides mentorship and practical knowledge. This prepares them for future careers. It also helps them become leaders.
