Power outages affect three regions after rainstorm
Ghana's Electricity Company (ECG) is responding to widespread power outages across Volta, Tema, and Central Regions. Technical faults and a recent rainstorm caused network failures, leaving many communities without electricity. The incidents raise concerns about the national power grid's resilience as Ghana enters its rainy season.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is addressing power outages in the Volta, Tema, and Central Regions. These outages follow a combination of technical faults and a heavy rainstorm. Many communities have been without electricity since the weekend.
In the Volta Region, engineers are working on a fault on the Tsito Feeder. This has cut power to areas like Tsaweunu and Sokode Ando. ECG confirmed the outage but did not give a timeframe for power restoration.
In the Tema Region, two transformers at the Community 25 substation failed. This left Community 25 and surrounding areas without power. ECG engineers are working to fix this as quickly as possible.
The Central Region saw the most damage. A heavy rainstorm in Assin Fosu caused widespread faults in the power network. Areas including Nsuta, Dadieso, and Assin Manso are affected. ECG said engineers are mobilized to rectify the faults.
ECG has not said how long repairs will take but promised teams are working diligently. Customers are asked to report outages through official channels. These repeated disruptions happen as Ghana enters its rainy season. This raises questions about the national electricity network's strength. It also highlights the need for more investment in storm-proofing.
