PURC reduces electricity tariffs by 4.81% and water by 3.06%

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has reduced utility prices for the second quarter of the year. Electricity tariffs are down by 4.81%. Water tariffs have also dropped by 3.06%.

These new prices started on April 1. The PURC reviews tariffs every three months. This helps match utility costs to economic conditions. Key factors in this review include the Ghana cedi to US dollar exchange rate. Domestic inflation rate is also considered. The mix of electricity generation and fuel costs, especially natural gas, also play a part.

The PURC's role is to keep utility tariffs fair and current with the economy. This is part of their official duty.

In other news, the PURC has set new tariffs for commercial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging. This is a first for Ghana. It aims to help the country move towards cleaner energy.
