SpaceX aims for public trading, expects over GHS1 trillion valuation

Elon Musk's SpaceX is taking steps to become a publicly traded company. It recently filed confidentially with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

This move is expected to value SpaceX at more than GHS1 trillion when it goes public. This valuation would make it one of the largest stock market introductions in history. The company aims to officially go public by June.

SpaceX plans to raise at least GHS600 billion (equivalent to USD50 billion) through selling its shares to the public. This capital is crucial for funding its operations, which include manufacturing rockets, space exploration technology, and Starlink satellites.

The company also needs significant funds for its expanding interests in artificial intelligence (AI). SpaceX recently acquired xAI, another company owned by Musk. This integration follows similar moves by Musk to bring his companies closer together. For example, xAI also took over the social media platform X.

Analysts note that this consolidation helps SpaceX manage costs and share resources more effectively. The company's expansion plans, including large-scale computing and infrastructure needs, demand substantial investment. The IPO will provide the necessary cash for these ambitious projects.

SpaceX was founded in 2002 to reduce space travel costs through reusable rockets. It has contracts with NASA and operates Starlink, a global satellite internet network. Future plans include placing AI data centers in space and building a city on Mars.
