Traders resist cargo tracking policy over cost increase

A group representing Ghanaian importers, exporters, traders, and freight forwarders has asked the government to stop plans for a new cargo tracking system. This system includes the Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN) and Shipment Processing Note (SPN).

The group states that bringing back this policy will make the cost of doing business in Ghana higher. They also say it will harm improvements made at the country's ports and logistics sector. The policy was tried before and was stopped.

Concerns were raised about the Ghana Shippers’ Authority and the Inter-Ocean Maritime and Logistics Institute pushing the new system. The traders say there is not enough proof that the system will help. They also believe there has not been enough clear talk about it with those who use the ports.

The group warned that starting this system now will add to problems already faced by businesses. This is especially true as they deal with issues from the new Publican AI customs platform. They will take legal steps if their concerns are not heard.
